With the feature rich world of technology expanding and evolving at a frantic pace, the user demands too have increased manifold, the top most being their growing demands of storage speed. With a fast paced, multi-task oriented dizzying new age takes form and new horizons and possibilities open up, the demand for portable, lightweight, ready to go, fast, responsive, durable and flexible options.
We at memoryclearance believe in keeping up with the trends bearing in mind the demand for what has already been sold. A massive inventory and structured library of hardware options helps us provide you with the quickest and safest possible business options.
As technology grows by leaps and bounds and the mechanics and operations change with time, demands increase, performance benchmarks set new standards with each passing day, old and initial HDDs and SSDs are becoming obsolete and redundant. New enhanced performers were needed which ended up giving space to Hybrid SSDs (SSHD), mSATA SSDs and M.2 SSDs.
SSHD
A hybrid drive is a physical storage device that combines and amalgamates the best of both worlds when it comes to the HDD and SSDs, it takes the functionality of SSDs and the capacity of HDDs and fuses them into a device which meets the growing demands of heavy data usage. The intent is to add some of the speed of SSD to the cost-effective storage capacity of a traditional HDD. The SSD in a hybrid drive is programmed to act as a cache for the data stored on the HDD, making a positive impact on the overall performance by keeping copies of the most frequently used data on the faster SSD whilst exploiting the massive capacity capabilities of the HDD.
The two main “hybrid” storage technologies that combine NAND flash memory or SSDs, with the HDD technology: dual-drive hybrid systems and solid-state hybrid drives.
mSATA SSD
A mSATA SSD is a solid-state drive (SSD) which has been molded to the mSATA interface specification developed by the Serial ATA (SATA) International Organization. It is designed to work with smaller computational devices and hence is portable and easy to carry around. The mSATA is roughly the dimensions of a business card and can fit easily in the pocket making it a great choice for people who are always on the go.
Merits of mSATA SSDs include the small form factor which makes it lighter than all other memory modules, low power consumption which in-turn saves cost and keeps battery powered devices it is attached to, strain less. Shock/vibration resistance and fast boot/shutdown capabilities make it safer than most. Maximum bandwidth of a mSATA SSD is 6 gigabits per second (Gbps) which is more than sufficient.
M.2 SSD
An M.2 SSD is a solid-state drive (SSD) that conforms to a computer industry specification written for internally mounted storage expansion cards of a small form factor saving space and delivering a much better performance than its predecessors. Originally known as the Next-Generation Form Factor (NGFF), and popularized as the M-dot-2.
They are generally smaller than mSATA SSDs, for which they are intended as an alternative for. M.2 SSDs are designed to enable high-performance storage in thin, power-constrained devices who need to run on Li-Ion batteries mostly, such as ultrabooks and tablet computers.M.2 specification supports applications such as Wi-Fi, Universal Serial Bus (USB), PCI Express (PCIe) and Serial ATA (SATA).
